Ramya's Pregnancy Photoshoot in Hospital

December 5th, 2024

Photographing in a hospital environment presents unique, often delicate, challenges. My recent pregnancy shoot was a prime example. The first hurdle? Securing permission. Hospital admin approval is non-negotiable, and thankfully, my client, admitted to the high-risk unit, facilitated this.

Her initial vision was an outdoor shoot, but prioritizing her health, we opted for a studio setup within the hospital. Space was incredibly limited; we squeezed into a small room, transforming it into a temporary studio. Working with studio lights, due to the lack of natural light, added another layer of complexity.

Capturing those intimate moments required gentle direction. Guiding hand placements on the bump allowed for thoughtful framing. Technique-wise, wide apertures () became my best friend, blurring the sterile background and emphasizing the beautiful bump. High angles also proved effective in accentuating the form.

Above all, respect was paramount. Patient comfort and minimal disruption were my guiding principles. Communication with medical staff ensured a smooth process. This shoot wasn't just about the bump; it was about capturing the connection, the anticipation, and the love. A reminder that even in challenging spaces, beautiful stories can be told.
